‘The Dam is About to Break’: CBP & Border Patrol Have No Choice But to Release Migrants Onto City Streets

Fox News correspondent and award-winning investigative reporter Bill Melugin has been on the front lines of the southern border crisis for years.

In 2022, he spent 170 days at the border, according to the Los Angeles Times, and did 1,000 live shots from areas along the Rio Grande Valley.

Melugin and his crew have released footage taken by thermal-capable drones that have the capability of flying at night and over federal land showing migrants coming across the U.S.-Mexican border in droves.

DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas publicly stated last week that the border is not open to try to deter migrants from coming to the U.S.

He said in speaking about the border, “It has not been open, and it will not be open subsequent to May 11. And the smugglers who exploit vulnerable migrants are spreading misinformation. They are spreading false information, lies in a way to lure vulnerable people to the southern border and those individuals will only be returned.”

“As we have said repeatedly, individuals who do not have a lawful basis to remain will be removed,” acting CBP Commissioner Troy Miller reiterated the DHS secretary’s message.

“Individuals should not listen to the lies of smugglers and instead use lawful pathways to protection.”

From the latest footage, it looks like no one is heeding Mayorkas’ message. Border patrol agents are reportedly seeing 2,000 migrants a day in Brownsville, TX, and 8,000+ a day along the entire border.

“The dam is about to break,” one Border Patrol source said.

Melugin sent out a series of tweets updating Americans on the border situation a couple of days before the end of Title 42.

NEW: Per multiple CBP sources, last night, CBP & Border Patrol leadership made decision to authorize all Border Patrol sectors to begin “safe” street releases of migrants to communities across border *if* NGO shelters and CBP facilities do not have the capacity to hold them.

This means in coming days we will likely begin to see mass releases of migrants at bus stops, gas stations, supermarkets etc in communities across the border as illegal crossings continue to surge to record highs ahead of T42 drop in 2 days.

The DHS is reportedly giving additional funding to NGOs and local governments to aid the migrants in the border towns.

I continue to hear from frustrated Border Patrol & ICE contacts who are in disbelief that DHS/CBP announced in a press release last night that they were going to run an enforcement operation in El Paso today targeting gotaways/evaders camping on streets. Lost element of surprise.

They tell me you announce the RESULTS of an enforcement operation in a press release, not the PLAN. Our team on the ground in El Paso tell me much of the migrant population cleared out before the operation this morning, after the press release went out.

The Biden administration has misled the American people about the border situation and is now scrambling to get things under control ahead of the lifting of Title 42 on May 11.
