In a bid to court people of color, Nikki Haley now claims she is a victim of racism and was disqualified from a beauty pageant because “[she] wasn’t white or Black.”
The former South Carolina governor then insisted in an interview with NBC News that she knows the “pain” that comes with racism.
Haley even claims she was teased “every day for being brown.”
The presidential candidate’s stance drew confusion after she claimed during an interview with Brian Kilmeade on Fox News, “We’re not a racist country, Brian. We’ve never been a racist country.”
Haley keeps on stumbling on the race topic, during a town hall debate last year, the former UN ambassador refused to acknowledge that slavery caused the Civil War.
Previously, she credits herself as the first minority woman governor. During the racist terror attack at a Black church in Charleston, she was forced to take down the Confederate battle flag from the statehouse grounds.
For many, race had a lot to do with those events.
The duality of Haley irked many Americans, even fellow Republicans.
Political commentator and media personality Candace Owens hits the former governor in her attempt to play the race card. She asked, “Is Nikki Haley brown enough to pull the race card?”
Owens also clapped back on Haley’s attempt to put herself in a Jim Crow-like segregation as a reason why she failed to enter a beauty contest.
“This is very confusing to me. Nikki Haley was born in 1972. I’d assume it was at least the 80s before she tried to enroll in a beauty pageant. Were there segregated beauty pageants then? If not, why would they not know where to put her?
If so, how was the mixed-race Vanessa Williams crowned Miss America in 1984?”
“Nikki Haley is not only playing the ‘woman’ card but is now playing the race card,” quipped Collin Rugg, co-owner of Trending Politics.
Some X users also noted how Haley similarly flashed the race card out of desperation to improve her dismal polling average against the leading Republican nominee Donald Trump.
“Nikki Haley is apparently Indian BUT SHE AINT BROWN!” slams comedian Terrence Williams.
Investigative journalist Laura Loomer also noted that it was Nikki herself “who is trying to whitewash her own name.”
Nimarata’s staff told Loomer that “she doesn’t want the public to see how ‘foreign’ her family is.”
The journalist furthered that the former ambassador never went by ‘Nikki’ until she “decided to hide her Sikh background and run for office.”
