Virginia’s new Republican Attorney General Jason Miyares was sworn in along with Republican Governor Glenn Youngkin and Lt. Governor Winsome Sears on Saturday. Just hours after getting into office, AG Miyares announced investigations into the Virginia Parole Board and Loudoun County Public Schools.

He also announced full support for state law enforcement and announced that they will not defund police, a stark contrast from his predecessor, Mark Herring, the Democrat AG.

“So it’s a new day in Virginia,” Miyares told Fox News on his Tuesday appearance on the network.

“Our message is, we’re now going to value law enforcement. We’re not going to defund them, we’re going to defend them and give them the tools they need to do their jobs. We’re not going to have a criminal-first, victim-last mindset. We’re going to have a victim first mindset.”

“The Virginia Parole Board broke the law when they let out murderers, rapists and cop killers early in their sentences without notifying the victims,” AG Miyares said. “Loudoun County Public schools covered up a sexual assault on school grounds for political gain, leading to an additional assault of a young girl.” He added.

“Virginians deserve answers,” and “they want transparency and accountability.” He continued.

“Well, I mean, the messages is, there’s a new sheriff in town,” he added.

When campaigning, Miyares had promised to open investigations into the Virginia Parole Board and Loudoun County Public Schools. These promises were fulfilled within his first few hours in the office.
