Kentucky lawmaker Thomas Massie roasted then-January 6 Committee Chairman Bennie Thompson on two things regarding the January 6th Capitol demonstration: one is on the wiping of Secret Service texts and the apparent delay of examining the pipe bombs, which the Security Service failed to discover, was only found a day after the suspect planted it.
Massie wrote about the investigation on X: “Secret Service deleted texts from J6 and destroyed their phones AFTER being told by Congress to preserve them.”
The lawmaker asked the committee chair, “Is it true that the Secret Service cell phone records were deleted for that day on January 6th?”
Thompson attempts to dodge the question by saying: “I’m not certain that all of them – we had difficulties with getting some of them.”
Massie then inquired if such an act had impacted their investigation.
Thompson admitted that if only they had been provided with complete records of text messages, it would possibly have resulted in a more comprehensive report.
He added that the committee discovered halfway through the investigation that these messages were cleaned from the phones of Secret Service members during the term of President Donald Trump and throughout their investigation. Homeland Security oversees the Secret Service, where Sec. Alejandro Mayorkas is serving as secretary during that period.
Masie then read a statement written by Thompson and former Wyoming Rep. Liz Chaney in July 2022, which states that the DHS did not properly store the data after Congress told them to preserve it and that it could potentially violate a law.
The lawmaker then asked if they knew if Mayorkas held anyone responsible for scrubbing the records. But Thompson answered that it does not make sense anymore for him because the committee disbanded.
For Massie, if Thompson and the J6 committee find that there was a violation of records, there was indeed an obstruction of justice on Mayorkas’ behalf.
The lawmaker then shifted to the pipe bombs found lying near the Democratic National Committee and Republican National Committee offices.
According to reports from authorities, these bombs were installed in plain sight, the night before a non-uniformed police allegedly found them.
Many critics questioned how the Secret Service failed to notice the bomb when it was placed in a location for everyone to see.
Massie asked if Thompson knew that during the pipe bomb incident, newly-elected Vice President Kamala Harris was inside the DNC. To which Thompson said that he “did not know.”
In an apparent disbelief, Massie cast doubt on Thompson’s innocence. He further asked if the defunct J6 committee had investigated the pipe bombs, which “could have been the most catastrophic assassination,” following the murder of John F. Kennedy.
He also presented to Thompson a video of a non-uniformed police officer “informing” Harris’ Secret Service regarding the bomb but waited for about four minutes to respond and another ten minutes to evacuate the newly elected Vice President.
“This is why I wonder if you’re still the least bit curious about why Secretary Mayorkas has not followed up on the deletion of all these Secret Service texts. Does it bother you that they deleted them?” asked Massie.
The lawmaker also raised that the Secret Service not only wiped their phones clean of messages but also destroyed their phones, but no one seems interested in holding them accountable despite the massive security breach that could have cost Harris’ life.
In a tweet, Massie shared two documents he submitted during the investigation, these documents highlighted Thompson’s confirmation that a “crime was committed.” The second document, “points out those crimes occurred while Mayorkas was over the Secret Service.”

Example? The Biden administration.
