Top 5 Key Moments from Vance and Walz’s Only VP Debate Before the Election

In a significant political event, Sen. JD Vance, R-Ohio, and Gov. Tim Walz, D-Minn., engaged in their sole vice presidential debate on Tuesday night in New York City. The debate, which covered critical issues such as immigration, climate change, and abortion, served as an introduction for these lesser-known candidates to the American electorate ahead of the upcoming election.

VANCE, WALZ SPAR OVER ABORTION AND IMMIGRATION IN FIRST AND ONLY VP DEBATE

1.Vance Challenges CBS News Moderators

During the debate, JD Vance took a stand against CBS News moderator Margaret Brennan, who attempted to fact-check him regarding illegal immigration in Ohio. Vance asserted, “Margaret, the rules were that you are not going to fact-check. And since you’re fact-checking me, I think it’s important to say what’s actually going on.” He highlighted the ease with which illegal migrants can apply for legal status through the CBP One app, criticizing the current administration’s border policies.

2. A Moment of Civility

In a rare display of compassion, Vance expressed his condolences to Walz regarding a personal tragedy. “I didn’t know that your 17-year-old witnessed a shooting, and I’m sorry about that,” he said, to which Walz responded, “I appreciate it.” Vance added, “Christ have mercy,” acknowledging the gravity of the situation.

3. Vance on Border Crisis

Vance articulated his belief that while Walz may want to address the border crisis, he does not believe Vice President Kamala Harris shares that desire. “The American citizens have had their lives destroyed by Kamala Harris’s open border. It is a disgrace, Tim,” Vance stated, emphasizing the need for effective solutions.

4. Walz’s Controversial Claims

Walz made a bold assertion regarding a supposed “registry of pregnancies” under a potential Trump-Vance administration, linking it to Project 2025. He warned that it would “make it more difficult, if not impossible, to get contraception and limit access, if not eliminate access, to infertility treatments.” Vance promptly refuted this claim, responding, “No, certainly we won’t.”

5. Walz’s Note-Taking Draws Attention

Throughout the debate, Walz was seen taking extensive notes, a habit that drew the attention of both the audience and former President Donald Trump. “I made a note of this,” Walz remarked during one exchange. He criticized Vance’s skepticism towards experts, stating, “Economists can’t be trusted. Science can’t be trusted. National security folks can’t be trusted.”

He concluded with a jab at Trump’s confidence, saying, “Look, if you’re going to be president, you don’t have all the answers. Donald Trump believes he does.” Trump later quipped on Truth Social, “Walz is taking so many notes – Never seen a Candidate take more! He needs the notes to keep his brain intact.”

As the debate concluded, both candidates made their cases to the American people, setting the stage for what promises to be a contentious election season.
