Following a years-long probe into former President Donald Trump, the Manhattan District Attorney said they will not press criminal charges.
According to one of Mr. Trump’s lawyers, Ronald Fischetti, Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance claimed his team will not press charges against Donald Trump individually. However, lawsuits against the Trump Organization’s business practices and the company’s chief financial officer are ongoing. Those charges are predicted to come out this week or next, and the Trump Organization has said they expect criminal charges.
Fischetti told Politico that when asked if there were any other current potential charges, DA Vance simply said ‘no.’ Trump’s lawyer noted, “It’s crazy that that’s all they had.” Other investigations into the former president include Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen and Stormy Daniels. He went on to tell Politico, “‘They just said, ‘When this indictment comes down, he won’t be charged. Our investigation is ongoing.’”
The case against former president Trump has built up over the years and deals with incidents prior to his presidency. Earlier this year, the Manhattan DA requested Trump’s personal tax returns. The home of former NYC mayor and lawyer Rudy Guiliani was raided in May as part of the investigation into Trump. The NYC DA has focused its efforts on investigating Mr. Trump as well, and lawsuits against his businesses are in development.
