[UPDATE] Former President Donald Trump hinted that he has already determined his possible running mate if he wins the Republican nomination during a Fox News Town Hall in Iowa.
Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier, moderators of the event, pressed Trump on who would be in contention to join him on the Republican ticket.
Trump replied, “Well I can’t tell you that. I mean, I know who it’s going to be.”
Baier said, “Give us a hint.”
The Republican nominee responded, “I’ll tell you what, let’s do another show sometime.”
The moderators then asked Trump if he was willing to mend fences with his rivals, and the former president responded positively.
He quipped, “I’ve already started to like Christie better,” leading the crowd to burst into laughter.
However, Chris LaCivita, Trump’s senior campaign adviser, refused to give further details when asked by reporters during the town hall.
He remarked, “All I know is what I heard tonight, and I’m not gonna categorize it any other way than that.”
“He’ll announce his final pick when he’s ready to,” LaCivita added.
Several names were floated as Trump’s potential running mate. One of the leading contenders is South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem, who endorsed Trump in South Dakota last September 2023. Aside from Noem, Kari Lake, Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee, Rep. Elise Stefanik, and UN Ambassador Nikki Haley are also some of the possible options.
Another name that was raised earlier was Tucker Carlson, whom his wife Melania Trump advocated for. Trump responded, “I like Tucker a lot,…he’s got great common sense.”
However, many Trump supporters doubt this as they believe Trump will never pick someone who could shine above him.
[Original Story] “Our only retribution is success,” tells Donald Trump as he responds to Fox News’ Townhall moderators Bret Baier and Martha MacCallum in Iowa while his rivals go head-to-head in the fifth presidential debate just days before the Iowa Caucus.
Trump said, “We’re going to make the country so successful again, I’m not going to have time for retribution.”
However, the former president shared that seeking retribution is “not so bad” after all.
“Well, first of all, a lot of people would say that that’s not so bad.”
Trump’s hourlong town hall interview was his first live appearance on Fox News since 2022.
Unlike Fox’s town halls with Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, Trump bargained that his interview should be aired simultaneously with DeSantis and Haley’s CNN debate; both events are held in Des Moines, Iowa.
Moderators took seriously the challenge of keeping the town hall on track, compared to CNN’s town hall last May.
Baier and MacCallum allowed Trump to finish his sentences and avoided interrupting the GOP leader with fact-checks on every topic.
