In an interview with Patrick Bet-David on his PBD Podcast, Ukrainian-born lawmaker Victoria Spartz ripped financial aid on Ukraine and dubbed it a “slush fund.”
“I want accountability, and I said, I want to help with point-to-point logistics. I want any weapons to be delivered right to the frontline, with Americans. I don’t trust any Ukrainians to oversee that. There are some good people there, but a lot of shady people. That’s where my conflict with them started,” Spartz said.
The Indiana lawmaker further warned that billions of people’s money failed to go directly to the Ukrainian people.
“They can deal with their [own] corruption. I am an American congresswoman, and I want to make sure that they are not taking our money and our weapons.”
Since the bill for Ukrainian aid landed in the House, Spartz has expressed her strong opposition.
The lawmaker called for improved oversight of the taxpayers’ money and protested against “blank checks” for Zelensky. She also maintained that her colleagues should focus on guarding our borders.
The aid package was bundled with military aid for Israel, Taiwan, and other conflicted areas where the Biden administration is involved; Biden approved it last Wednesday.
With her stance, Spartz caught a lot of criticism on social media and from her fellow Ukrainians.
However, she maintained that her “responsibility is the protection of the American people.”
She also said that she is “appalled” by the perception that her “heritage” should dictate that she supports the Ukrainian cause, even if she thinks the money will just be plundered.
The bank teller turned politician echoed the same statement in an email to the Washington Post, where she said that it is “actually offensive and un-American to think that as an American my loyalty would not be to the people who elected me to represent them and to my family and children back home in Indiana, but to some foreign government in the country I left 24 years ago.”
Aside from opposing the bill, she pushed amendments to reduce the package.
“President Biden and President Zelensky failed the Ukrainian people,” Spartz said as she voted on the House floor.
She also said that while she supports the Ukrainian people, she feels “bad for the Ukrainian people and fighters on the front lines who have been electing bad leaders and paying a very high price for it.”
The lawmaker also blasted Ukraine president Volodymyr Zelensky, called him a “bandit,” and exposed that billions of dollars sent earlier to Ukraine went to Houthi rebels in Yemen.
Spartz has been in the US for 20 years; she immigrated to the country after meeting her husband from Indiana on a train in Europe.
