Former President Bill Clinton’s top aid and current ABC News host, George Stephanopoulos on Sunday suggested that Hillary Clinton supporters did not take “same action” as Trump supporters did after the 2020 election.
In a roundtable panel on The Week, Stephanopoulos agreed with his guest, Yvette Simpson, the CEO of Democracy For America that there was “no precedent” for the January 6th protest at the U.S. Capitol.
“I mean, this is purely in the Republican camp. The reality is, is even the poll suggested the Democrats agree that this was not about democracy. This is about ruining democracy, not protecting it,” Simpson argued.
“Twenty-five percent of Democrats said violence was acceptable in that poll,” ABC Analyst Sarah Isgur countered. “In 2017, a third of Hillary Clinton voters said Donald Trump was not legitimately elected. You’re saying this is unprecedented?”
Stephanopoulos interjected that Hillary Clinton supporters “did not take the same action.”
During and after President Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, back in January 2017, Police arrested more than 200 rioters in Washington D.C. Many businesses in this time experienced significant damage and losses because of the vandalism and unrest caused by groups like Antifa. At least six police officers were injured and there were cars torched on fire on Inauguration Day.
These violent riots weren’t just limited to Washington D.C. blue cities like New York, Chicago, Portland, and Seattle experienced a similar form of violent riots. In Portland, a man was even shot as a result of this violence. The liberal media industrial complex and leftist talking heads praised these rioters, many of whom traveled “across state lines”
This mainstream support of violent protests inspired a new movement that is now known as the “Women’s March” Just in the first week of President Trump’s inauguration, during a Women’s March rally at Washington Square Park, famous liberal pop singer Madonna said that she has “thought a lot about blowing up the White House”
Many prominent Democrat officials attended and supported and continue to support the Women’s march despite its violent rhetoric. Even Hillary Clinton, who still after almost 5 years of losing to President Trump, then supported the Women’s March.
“Thanks for standing, speaking & marching for our values @womensmarch. Important as ever. I truly believe we’re always Stronger Together.” She wrote on Twitter.
California Democrat Congresswoman Rep. Maxine Waters even went as far as encouraging her unhinged leftist supporters to confront members of the Trump administration and Republicans in public and to “tell them they’re not welcome” till this date, neither Waters nor any Democrat has apologized for this or even disowned this message.
“You look back at 2017, look at the ABC poll on whether Trump was legitimately elected. It was about six to eight points off of this one right now, not that far off. Hillary Clinton asked in 2017, was Trump legitimately elected, point blank. She did not say yes. She said she had questions,” Isgur added at her ABC appearance.
“You think Democrats, if Donald Trump runs again, if Donald Trump wins in 2024, you think Democrats are going to think he was legitimately elected? You got to be kidding me,” She added.
