The California law enforcement association has taken away Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband Paul Pelosi’s lifetime membership because of his actions during his DUI arrest in May. He tried to bribe the arresting officer with a ‘get out of jail free’ card, which reflected badly on the group.

The CHP 11-99 Foundation notified Pelosi of his termination in a letter, with the group issuing a statement that said:

“After evaluating the events that led to Mr. Pelosi’s arrest and conviction, we are revoking Mr. Pelosi’s lifetime membership with the CHP 11-99 Foundation effective immediately. As an organization that represents the brave men and women of the California Highway Patrol, we have a responsibility to uphold the highest standards of conduct, and Mr. Pelosi’s actions failed to meet those standards.”

Pelosi was arrested in May for DUI after he was pulled over for speeding. He pleaded no contest to the charges in August and was sentenced to probation and ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

During his arrest, Pelosi flashed a card that identified him as a member of the CHP 11-99 Foundation. The officer who arrested him later testified that he believed Pelosi was trying to use the card to get out of the DUI charges.

The CHP 11-99 Foundation is a nonprofit organization that provides financial assistance to California Highway Patrol employees and their families. Pelosi has been a member of the group for years and his wife is also a member.

The 11-99 Foundation, which provides financial assistance to families of California Highway Patrol officers killed in the line of duty, released a statement on Wednesday saying that Pelosi is no longer a member.

“The 11-99 Foundation has a zero tolerance policy for anyone that disgraces the badge, and Mr. Pelosi’s actions are in direct violation of our code of conduct,” the statement said. “Effective immediately, Mr. Pelosi is no longer a member of the 11-99 Foundation.”

“The overwhelming majority of our members truly support the 11-99 Foundation because of the work we do to support grieving spouses, families whose children have been diagnosed with a terminal illness, and temporary housing for CHP families who lost homes due to wildfires or other natural disasters, and our vocational and academic scholarship program for CHP children.”

During his arrest, Pelosi flashed a card that identified him as a member of the CHP 11-99 Foundation. The officer who arrested him later testified that he believed Pelosi was trying to use the card to get out of the DUI charges.

Pelosi’s attorney said at the time that his client was not trying to use the card to get preferential treatment and that he had been a member of the foundation for years.

The 11-99 Foundation’s statement did not mention Pelosi by name, but it was clear that the decision to remove him from the group was in response to his arrest.

“The 11-99 Foundation has always held our members to a high standard, both on and off duty,” the statement said. “We expect our members to uphold the law, not break it.”
