In the latest interview with The Washington Times, Ohio Republican Congressman Rep. Jim Jordan discussed how the GOP is becoming more conservative.

According to Rep. Jordan, the Republican Party is finally embracing the values espoused by the arch-conservative House Freedom Caucus that was founded back in 2015.

The Freedom Caucus succeeded the Tea Party Caucus as a Populist challenger to the GOP establishment. Former President Donald Trump’s “America First” agenda perfectly aligned with the ideas of the Freedom Caucus. Policies like ending foreign wars, tackling illegal immigration, and focusing on ‘America First’ policies are some of the key agendas of the Freedom Caucus.

“I do think the party has moved in a conservative direction,” Jordan told The Washington Times. “I always said we’re a populist party rooted in conservative principles, and no one demonstrated that better than President Trump — that’s what the Freedom Caucus is really about.”

In his new book, Do What You Said You Would Do: Fighting for Freedom in the Swamp. Rep. Jordan discusses moving against former Speaker of the House John Boehner and describes it as the opening salvos of battles that eventually led to Trump’s election a few years later as the party moved closer to them and away from the RINO faction.

“The formation of House Freedom Caucus and the election of Donald Trump were driven by the same set of events that unfolded over an eight-year time frame,” Jordan writes. “Some were actions done solely by Democrats, others involved both parties, but unfortunately, most of the events that became the catalyst for the formation of HFC and the election of Donald Trump were failures by Republicans — failures to do what they said they would do.” He continues.

He points out after President Trump won in 2016, the GOP had the majority in both chambers of Congress but could not act on essential policies like repealing Obamacare, securing funding for President Trump’s border wall, holding big-tech companies accountable for tyrannical censorship, and many other conservative issues.

Another Freedom Caucus member and Florida Republican Congressman Rep. Matt Gaetz said recently, “We are going to take power after this next election.”

“When we do, it’s not going to be the days of Paul Ryan and Trey Gowdy. No real oversight and no real subpoenas. It’s going to be the days of Jim Jordan, Marjorie Taylor Greene, and Dr. [Paul] Gosar and myself,” he added.
