Kayleigh McEnany, the former White House Press Secretary, put Rachel Maddow on notice after “Outnumbered” handily defeated Maddow’s show in the ratings.
On Monday, Fox News saw 9 of its shows in the top 25 ratings overall, including the top 3. MSNBC and CNN did not have any show up until much further down the list. In both total viewers and the critical 25-54 demographic, Fox News also beat its competitors handily.
Jesse Watters placed 14th, The Ingraham Angle 17th, Gutfeld 21st Outnumbered 22nd, Special Report with Bret Bair 23rd, and Americas Newsroom 25th. As for Tucker, he finished 7th while Hannity lagged in 12th and The Five in 13th.
Rachel Maddow, who returned to her MSNBC show on Monday, placed 31st in the ratings. This is significantly below Kayleigh McEnany’s “Outnumbered” show on Fox News, which came in on the 22nd.
This is just the latest rating victory for Fox News, which continues to dominate the cable news landscape. MSNBC and CNN have been trying to catch up for years but have so far been unable to unseat Fox News from its perch atop the ratings. With shows like ‘Outnumbered,’ it is clear that Fox News has no intention of giving up its top spot anytime soon.
According to Nielsen, Fox News’s “Outnumbered” averaged 2.3 million viewers during the 8 pm hour, while MSNBC’s “The Rachel Maddow Show” averaged 1.3 million viewers.
This marks the sixth consecutive week that Fox News has topped the primetime rating charts.
For her part, Kayleigh McEnany, one of the hosts of ‘Outnumbered,’ took to Twitter to gloat about the show’s rating victory.
“Outnumbered crushes competition! Thank you to all who tune in! We appreciate your viewership and support!” she wrote.
McEnany tweeted, “Put me on notice: @OutnumberedFNC crushes Maddow in the 8 pm hour 22-31! Thanks to all who tune in!”
In response, a Twitter user pointed out that Maddow’s show still had more total viewers than ‘Outnumbered.’
“Yes but we won the key demo which is most important to advertisers. Plus we had more viewers than any other show on cable news last week, including Hannity. So… we’ll take it!” McEnany replied.
Maddow has been facing increased scrutiny in recent weeks, with many critics accusing her of peddling conspiracy theories about the Trump administration.
Just last week, New York Times media columnist Ben Smith wrote that Maddow “has become the leader of the anti-Trump resistance” and that she is “the network’s undisputed star.”
Many on the left have also been critical of Maddow, with some even calling for her to be replaced as the host of MSNBC’s flagship program.
It was the first time “Outnumbered” had ever beaten Maddow in total viewers.
“Just a friendly reminder that ‘Outnumbered’ is now beating Rachel Maddow in the ratings… so keep up the good work!” McEnany tweeted.
Maddow has been a vocal critic of President Trump and his administration, often dedicating her show to dissecting their policies and actions.
McEnany, who was previously a contributor on CNN, has been a staunch defender of the president since joining the administration.
