With this loss, the US team can no longer compete for the gold medal in this Olympics. This Olympic season had a bad start for the team where they faced a devastating 3-0 loss to Sweden in their opener, breaking the historic 44-game winning streak.
All 22 players on this team took a knee in support of Black Lives Matter and protested the national anthem before the first opening game, and made many US soccer fans upset.
The U.S. team was the number one team entering this Tokyo Olympics but has faced many losses. Starting in its opening match with Sweden, they lost 3-0, were barely able to beat New Zealand, and then tied with Australia for a narrow knockout stage. The team relied on penalties to score a win against the Netherlands before playing Canada on Monday and losing 1-0.
