Auburn University to Shut Down DEI Office

The people are pushing back.

Woke-DEI ideology indoctrinated in our sons and daughters creates division, corrupts the mind, and undermines intellectual progress. After years of imposition by the crooked Democratic Party, the people are finally pushing back.

Auburn University recently announced that it will close down its diversity, equity, and inclusion department on August 15, the fifth university to shut down in Alabama.

The closure comes after the state implemented its new law prohibiting public schools and state universities from backing DEI programs.

Auburn University followed the recent announcement of the University of Alabama system that three of their campuses are closing their DEI department and will reassign their staff to other offices such as academic support and other student-initiatives programs such as initiatives advancing free speech and civil discourse.

Auburn has 33,000 students and is the second-largest university in Alabama.

“Some colleagues will fill existing vacancies, while others will assume new roles in existing offices to assist with student recruitment, admissions or to support student success and student organizations,” Auburn’s announcement wrote.

“…We remain resolute in our commitment to deliver exceptional experiences and to support all students, with particular emphasis on providing access and opportunity.”

Aside from Auburn and the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Birmingham, and Huntsville, Jacksonville State University will also close its DEI offices in compliance with SB 129, which was signed by Governor Kay Ivey in March.

“I refuse to allow a few bad actors on college campuses – or wherever else for that matter – to go under the acronym of DEI, using taxpayer funds, to push their liberal political movement counter to what the majority of Alabamians believe,” Ivey blasted as she signs the bill.

SB 129 also bans biological men from using women’s comfort rooms. It states that “each public institution of higher education shall ensure that every multiple occupancy restroom be designated for use by individuals based on their biological sex.”

Moreover, the law disallows schools from compelling students or staff to affirm or adhere to a “divisive concept.”

In the legislation, “divisive concepts” were defined as arguments “that individuals should be discriminated against or adversely treated because of their race, color, religion or sex” or that “the moral character of an individual is determined by his or her race, ethnicity or national origin.”

The law will take effect on October 1. Meanwhile, the law also clarified that DEI concepts can still be tackled in the classroom but merely for academic discussion and cannot be compelled.
