Bill Maher Criticizes the Left, Says “Your Ideas Are Stupid”

Bill Maher, a confessed Democrat, did not mince his words during an interview with CNN on Sunday, where he answered accusations from his critics that he has changed.

Maher answered, “I haven’t turned. Yes, people have said to me, ‘You make fun of the left more than you used to,’ and guilty, I have, because the left has changed.”

The comedian host shared his views with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria as part of his media tour for his new book, “What This Comedian Said Will Shock You.”

“There are things that have to do with, you know, gender and race and free speech, and just ideas about you can be healthy at any weight and gender is always a social construct and maybe we should give communism another try and maybe we should get rid of capitalism and the Border Patrol, and let’s tear down statues of Lincoln and get rid of the police.”

“Just, you know — no. It’s not that I’ve gotten old, it’s that your ideas are stupid, OK?” Maher clapped back.

Zakaria, who shares similar views with Maher on the left, weighed in and said, “Common sense is common sense.”

Maher told Zakaria his reasons for writing the book. He said, “I wanted people to be able to buy a book that was sort of an encyclopedia of every good thing I ever said over the last 20 years.”

He continued, “The other reason I wanted to do this is because I thought that, by looking over all this stuff from the past, I could ascertain whether I had changed or whether the politics had changed.”

The HBO show host admitted that, indeed, he made fun of the left recently “because they got a lot crazier.”

The comedian also blasted “The View” host Sunny Hostin when she remarked that Maher has “changed” after he told during the interview that considers himself an “old school liberal.”

Maher quipped, “Don’t tell me that the left hasn’t changed,” Maher said. “I’m old enough to remember when it was the conservatives who hated the Jews.”

The New York Post interviewed Maher on Tuesday and asked him “what emboldens him to call out his own side.”

He replied, “Why do I make fun of the left more? Because there’s much more identity politics, super-sensitivity, victim culture, cancel culture, hostility to free speech, pointless white self-loathing, forcing complex ideas about race and gender on kids who can’t even spell yet — all this kind of stuff is going on on the left.

“That doesn’t mean I became a Republican or became more conservative — because I didn’t. It just means I don’t bend the knee and just ignore the goofy stuff because I’m on team blue.”

In December last year, Maher ripped “liberal friends” who refused to read other news sources and only relied on the New York Times and MSNBC.
