Actor Alec Baldwin made a statement on social media after reports surfaced that he will likely be charged in the shooting death of cinematographer Halyna Hutchins. Her death happened on the set of the movie “Rust” in Bonanza City, New Mexico on October 21, 2021.

Alec said on social media, “My heart has been broken a thousand times this past year. And things in my life may never be the same. Lots of changes coming. But my family has kept me alive. They are my reason for living. And @hilariabaldwin too.”

In 2021, he said this of the tragic death, “There are no words to convey my shock and sadness regarding the tragic accident that took the life of Halyna Hutchins, a wife, mother and deeply admired colleague of ours.”

New Mexico had granted an emergency request by First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies for the funds to prosecute four people connected to the shooting of a cinematographer by Alec Baldwin.

The state Board of Finance approved more than $317,000 to cover the cost of investigation and prosecution. As many as four people could face charges, according to a copy of the request.

Carmack-Altwies didn’t say who would be charged but she said, “One of the possible defendants is well-known movie actor Alec Baldwin.”

She did say she was ready to file charges against four people and is “certainly looking at all the homicide statutes and any gun statutes under New Mexico criminal code.”

A final report on the findings of the investigation is expected from the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office soon according to Carmack-Altwies.

NPR reported:

For months, actor Alec Baldwin has said that he did not pull the trigger of a gun that fatally shot a crew member while they were filming in New Mexico. But new forensic evidence may tell a different story.

The FBI recently finished and sent a report to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office, which is handling the investigation. Officials found that the weapon, meant to be a prop, could not be fired without pulling the trigger.

Baldwin’s lawyer called the FBI’s findings “misconstrued,” adding that the gun in question was in “poor condition,” in a statement to NPR.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and so far no one has been charged with any wrongdoing, according to the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s Office.

Last year Baldwin said, “Someone is responsible for what happened, and I can’t say who that is.”

“But I know it’s not me.”

Hutchins’ family filed a wrongful death suit against Baldwin and the production company.

Others who were on the set, like the film’s script supervisor, the lead camera operator, and the production’s main medic filed lawsuits over the trauma they went through.
