The YMCA is a Christian-based organization designed to help people. It is in the organization’s mission statement. It is supposed to help people build a healthy mind, spirit, and body for all.
It has pools, gyms, gymnastics studios, child care, a classroom for health lessons, and places for Christian Youth ministries and retreats. It does, on the surface, do what it says it does. Promote the health of the body, mind, and spirit.
The YMCA, in many cities, offers homeless shelters as well. Many law enforcement agencies locate people and bring them to the YMCA because they know they will be well-taken care of throughout the year.
Unfortunately, in the last week, the YMCA has gotten bad publicity from an incident in Washington State. The incident seems to have a variety of conflicting witness statements from quite a few people.
The one thing that seems to be agreed upon by everyone involved, is that there was a male in the shower room of the YMCA along with some little girls changing out of their bathing suits. In any sane world, that mere fact would be cause for serious concern amongst rational adults.
The result of whatever transpired in that shower or locker room is that 80-year-old Julie Jaman is banned from going to the YMCA ever again. Julie is a resident of Port Townshend City, Washington D.C., and has been going to the YMCA for over thirty years.
Last week, after swimming in the pool, Julie went to change in the locker room. It is a small place. The locker rooms are open for various sexes. It is common courtesy that when a female is inside, any male does not enter. Again, in a sane world, it is common courtesy.
However, this day Julie was changing from her bathing suit when she noticed a man, dressed in a female bathing suit, staring at a bunch of little girls who were changing in the locker room. In a sane world, this would necessitate an immediate calling of the police to remove the male and bring them to a cell.
This is Joe Biden’s world right now and the idea of normal is…well…gone. What happens next in the YMCA is up for debate. We know that Julie went all Karen on the unidentified male demanding he exit the locker room immediately. The male declined to do so.
During the confrontation, a question was asked about what genitalia the man had. It was asked in much more colorful terms. After the man refused to leave, Julie notified the YMCA staff. The staff asked Julie to leave because she was discriminating.
Port Townshend Free Press reported that Jaman says, “There were gaps in the curtain and there I was, naked, with soap and water on me, and this guy, right there very close to me. I asked, ‘Do you have a penis?’ He said, ‘That’s none of your business.’ That’s when I told him, ‘Get out of here, right now.”
Let’s take a step back to re-examine the situation. An 80-year-old woman is changing in the locker room when she notices a male dressed in a female bathing suit staring at little girls changing. Okay, officially crazy.
It gets even weirder. The male and other witnesses add to the story and state the male was touching the little girl. He was helping the little girl undress. Julie, actually says that she did not see that. Even weirder is that the man, is a YMCA staff member named Clementine Adams.
The YMCA staff and others believe the man was touching the young girl. Yet, they still banned Julie from the facility instead of the man. The police didn’t respond to the scene. It is a very small town.
Julie left them a message and an officer had to call her back. In a police call report obtained by the Port Townsend Free Press, Jaman “had an emotional response to a strange male being in the bathroom and helping a young girl take off her bathing suit.”
In the end, Julie Jaman is banned from the YMCA. The staff claims there have been incidents of language and behavior that boiled over and that is why she is kicked out. So, she’s mean. An elderly woman turns out to be mean and is banned. Yet, a male staring at or helping little girls change is okay. Crazy!
