Jeffrey Epstein associate Ghislaine Maxwell has finally arrived in New York Court today for her trial of sex trafficking charges.
Maxwell is charged with eight counts. Two of enticing minors and sex trafficking for over a decade. And two separate charges perjury. She will finally see her accusers in court today.
If found guilty on all six counts, Maxwell could face up to 80 years in prison. The trial itself is expected to last for around six weeks and the opening statements will be given after the jury has been sworn in.
Her lawyers are arguing that she is facing the fall for Epstein’s crimes claiming “left with no fish to attempt to fry, the government belatedly turned to Ms. Maxwell.”
Back in August 2019, Jeffery Epstein committed ‘suicide’ in a high-security jail in New York City. He was accused of procuring underage girls for prostitution and sex trafficking charges.
Maxwell has been held on remand in a Brooklyn detention center since her arrest in July 2020. She had applied for bail four different times, including an offer of $28.5M (£21M) from her lawyers.
