Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) spoke about Ukraine, Russia, and the Biden administration. Kentucky Senator Rand Paul called Joe Biden’s views regarding Russia-Ukraine tensions “bizarre and destructive” when speaking on the Senate floor on Thursday. “Our president appears to hint, and I hope inadvertently, that he expects Putin to escalate in Ukraine, and in any case, Putin may do whatever he wants,” McConnell added. “Here’s what the President said: that decision is absolutely, completely, and completely Putin’s.” I’m thinking it makes no difference whether side of the bed he gets out of.” What exactly does that mean?”

This occurs as Russian President Vladimir Putin amasses a force of at least 100,000 troops near Ukraine’s sovereign border. Nevertheless, Biden cautioned that if Russia undertakes a “little incursion” into Ukraine, the US and its allies may not be united in their response. “It was a strange and melancholy performance, especially for our friends on the front lines,” McConnell remarked. “… Minutes thereafter, White House aides produced a frantic statement explaining an entirely different point of view than President Biden had just spoken. “Of course, the damage was already done.”

The Republican senator went on to suggest that Biden’s statements needed to be polished and that he needed to demonstrate unambiguous American leadership. “His administration should be using every waking moment right now to accelerate our delivery of actual defensive capabilities to Ukraine,” he said. McConnell highlighted that Putin will be deterred only if the rest of the world holds him accountable for his conduct.
