Connecticut High School’s “Gender-Intrusive” Tampons in Male Restroom Face Backlash

Students of Brookfield High School in Brookfield, Connecticut were dismayed at a gender-inclusive program of the school that includes putting up a tampon dispenser inside a male restroom.

According to reports, the dispenser lasted only 20 minutes before the students tore it down.

In a letter by the principal Marc Balanda, he called the incident an “egregious instance of vandalism and destruction of property.”

Balanda emphasized that the dispenser was installed in the boys’ bathroom near the Main Office, following a bill that will take effect in September.

The new state law requires public schools to install “coin-free dispensers or otherwise provide free access to a selection of menstrual products in all women’s restrooms, any all-gender restrooms and one men’s restroom per school.”

According to Connecticut’s Department of Public Health (DPH), “The intention of the law is to address period poverty, meaning the struggle to purchase period products due to lack of income.”

Balanda then narrated the events, “A dispenser with menstrual products was installed in the boys’ bathroom near the (main office).”

“The installation was completed at 9:30 (a.m.). By 9:52 (a.m.), tampons were on the floor, the newly installed distribution box was ripped off the wall along with the masonry anchors, and the distribution box itself was destroyed.”

Balanda slammed the actions committed by the students and described it as a “work of immature boys, not men.”

The principal also claimed that the students did not understand the recent policy, which explained why they tore down the dispenser and encouraged them to ask for information, rather than “using your hands to destroy something.

The explanation of this new law is to provide access to trans and intersex students to sanitary products if they need them.

Meanwhile, Brookfield Schools Superintendent John Barile confirmed that the issue “has since been addressed with the student” but declined to give more details.

Barile said, “Brookfield High School is approaching this matter from a restorative perspective in that they are providing both education on the issue and work to remediate this issue with students.

However, this news reached the internet, and many social media users agreed with the students.

Here are some of their takes:

“The boys who did this👇🏽 deserve a trophy🏆,” said Scarlett Johnson.

An X user quipped, “Great picture of the results. The kids are fed up!”

“The tampon dispenser mounted in that school’s Boys’ restroom was placed right where it belongs – in the toilet.”

“Sometimes, the kids have a lot more “smarts” than the Adults making the expensive stoopid “decisions.” Another INSANE state law that needs to go away.”
