Washington, D.C. – January 22, 2026 – The House Oversight Committee, under the leadership of Chairman James Comer (R-KY), has initiated a formal investigation into the finances of Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) following revelations in her 2024 financial disclosure report. The probe centers on the rapid escalation in the value of assets linked to her husband, Tim Mynett, raising questions about potential conflicts of interest and connections to a major fraud scandal in her district.
According to the disclosure, Mynett’s investment firm, Rose Lake Capital, saw its valuation skyrocket from a modest range of $1 to $1,000 in prior reports to between $5 million and $25 million. Similarly, a winery co-founded by Mynett experienced a significant jump, increasing from $15,000 to $50,000 to a new valuation of $1 million to $5 million. Chairman Comer highlighted these “extraordinary” gains in a statement, pointing out that Rose Lake Capital’s bank account reportedly held only $42 as recently as late 2022, prompting scrutiny over the sources of this sudden accumulation of wealth.
The investigation also draws links to the Feeding Our Future scandal, a high-profile fraud case in Minnesota that involved the alleged misuse of federal funds intended for child nutrition programs during the COVID-19 pandemic. The scandal, which unfolded in Omar’s congressional district, has already led to multiple convictions and is estimated to have cost taxpayers over $250 million. Comer suggested that the probe will examine any potential ties between Mynett’s business interests and entities involved in the fraud, emphasizing the need for transparency in congressional family finances.

Rep. Omar has pushed back against the allegations, denying that she or her family possess millions in assets. In a previous statement unrelated to the probe, she emphasized her reliance on her $174,000 annual congressional salary, ongoing student debt obligations, and lack of personal investments such as a home or stocks. Her office has not yet responded to requests for comment regarding the Oversight Committee’s actions.
Sources familiar with the matter indicate that the investigation could escalate, potentially involving subpoenas for financial records or referrals to the House Ethics Committee if evidence of impropriety is uncovered. This development comes amid ongoing partisan tensions in Congress, with Republicans frequently targeting Democratic members over ethics issues.
The probe was announced just hours ago, with updates continuing to emerge. Political analysts suggest it could impact Omar’s standing within her party and her reelection prospects in Minnesota’s 5th District, where she has served since 2019 as one of the first Muslim women elected to Congress.

Stephen Hayward of “PowerLine Blog” has been publishing verified evidence that she married her own brother to get him into the US since 2019. She needs to be indicted, tried and if found guilty (not a sure thing given the stupid people in the jury pool there) stripped of her naturalization and deported.
