JUST IN: Trump Unveils ‘Major’ Trade Deal To Be Announced Today

President Donald Trump revealed on Wednesday that he plans to unveil a “major trade deal” from the Oval Office at 10 a.m. Eastern Time on Thursday.

“Big News Conference tomorrow morning at 10:00 A.M., The Oval Office, concerning a MAJOR TRADE DEAL WITH REPRESENTATIVES OF A BIG, AND HIGHLY RESPECTED, COUNTRY,” the president announced in a Truth Social post. “THE FIRST OF MANY!!!”

This announcement follows Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent’s testimony to lawmakers a day earlier, in which he indicated that the initial agreement among several planned trade deals with “major trading partners” could be disclosed before the week’s end. “There are 18 very important trading relationships. We are currently negotiating with 17 of those trading partners. China – we have not engaged in negotiations with as of yet,” Bessent stated during a House Appropriations Subcommittee hearing on Financial Services and General Government.

“Approximately 97% or 98% of our trade deficit is with 15 countries, 18% of the countries are major trading partners, and I would be surprised if we don’t have more than 80% or 90% of those wrapped up by the end of the year,” the treasury secretary added.

Later that day, in an interview with Fox News, Bessent confirmed that the administration is scheduled to begin direct talks with Chinese officials in Switzerland over the weekend.

Trump did not specify which country the agreement was made with, nor did he provide further information in his Truth Social post on Wednesday evening.

For several days, Bessent and other top officials have signaled that agreements are close with nations such as South Korea, Japan, India, and Australia. Additionally, the United Kingdom has eased several restrictions on American products in a bid to secure a long-sought trade pact—a goal pursued by every British government since the Brexit vote.

Regarding China, the administration has recently secured multiple exemptions from tariffs on vital U.S. exports. However, China remained the only major nation excluded when Trump recently announced a 90-day halt on most of his “Liberation Day” tariffs. The president vowed to maintain a 125% tariff on all Chinese imports until formal discussions begin.
