Disney seems to be in a damage control mode recently, as they called in Searchlight’s David Greenbaum to replace Sean Bailey, as production president on Disney, immediately.
Bailey has produced a lot of live-action remakes for 14 years. Although he got lucky with some of the hits, his recent films were a flop.
He produced The Little Mermaid and The Haunted Mansion.
Bailey was also responsible for kicking out Johnny Depp from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise.
Greenbaum will take over the role of president for Disney’s live-action and 20th Century Studios. He will be under Disney’s co-chairman, Alan Bergman.
Through Greenbaum, reports noted that Searchlight garnered recognition and awards.
Greenbaum is also instrumental in dozens of feature films, such as The Shape of Water, Nomadland, The Grand Budapest Hotel, and Black Swan.
Disney has suffered one flop after another in recent months. The company’s ‘woke’ approach to their film doesn’t appeal to the American public.
Parents and fans also criticized this “woke” programming by the company.
Woke doesn’t work — and this has affected the company’s filing with the SEC in November.
It said, “Generally, our revenues and profitability are adversely impacted when our entertainment offerings and products, as well as our methods to make our offerings and products available to consumers, do not achieve sufficient consumer acceptance.”
With the void that Disney has created, tons of production companies rose above the occasion and filled children’s entertainment needs. Daily Wire began producing the Snow White and the Seven Dwarves live-action.
Meanwhile, Disney, who seems unshaken by the drop in profit, announced last month that they hired activist and documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chieny to direct the next “Star Wars.”
Choosing a documentary filmmaker to direct the epic series, let alone an activist, was a recipe for disaster.
Worse, just last Sunday, Disney announced that they will introduce “Morph,” a mutant shapeshifter as “nonbinary” for the upcoming X-Men ’97 cartoon.
The original series presented Morph as male.
Additionally, X-Men updates further detailed Morph’s characterization in X-Men ’97:
“This is a lighter take on the character, who is nonbinary and has an interesting buddy relationship with Wolverine. The character’s past with Mister Sinister, the show’s villain, could also come into play.”
Fans quickly slammed the plan in the new series to push that there is a relationship between the mutant shapeshifter and Wolverine.
“Idgaf if Morph is binary or nonbinary. What I do have a problem with is if they push a relationship between morph and Wolverine for the sake of being woke,” replied an X user
For the first time in recent history, Disney lost the overall box office crown in 2023.
