Legal expert Alan Dershowitz spoke out after the FBI raided former President Donald Trump’s Florida home in Mar-A-Lago.
Alan said that a raid should be a last resort and that “unless there is evidence we’re not aware of” it is “improper behavior by authorities.”
He also mentioned that “a raid is supposed to be a last resort and I just hope this raid has a justification.”
The FBI was allegedly looking for boxes of classified documents that the president had supposedly taken from the White House.
Alan also said if the raid “doesn’t have a justification, the material seized in it will be suppressed. I suspect it has to do with some investigations leading toward Donald Trump and some of his associates, but again, the law is clear:
You don’t engage in a raid unless you’ve exhausted all the other remedies unless you believe that the person rated will destroy the evidence.”
Alan said that raids should not be the first recourse, they should be the last recourse.
“That’s the way it usually works, but in order to get on television, they have a lot of these raids where people are arrested, put in handcuffs, sometimes put in leg shackles, bail denied.”
“Presumption of innocence still applies, but it’s applied only in theory, but not in practice.”
“Unless there is evidence that we’re not aware of, this is improper and it is misconduct, and we have to find out what the facts are.”
He also mentioned that we want to make sure that what happened to Trump could happen to the Democrats.
“We want to make sure that what’s being done here is something that Democrats would not oppose if it were being done for Democratic operatives as well.”
“I don’t think it passes that standard,” he added.
The raid that occurred is unprecedented. The FBI even scoured through Melanie’s wardrobe and broke into Trump’s safe at their home.
The New York Post learned that the search warrant used by the FBI focused solely on presidential records and evidence of classified information being kept there.
A source close to former President trump is concerned that the FBI or DOJ could have “planted stuff” because they wouldn’t allow Trump’s attorneys inside to observe the operation. The whole operation lasted more than nine hours.
They arrived at approximately 9 a.m. and didn’t leave until 6:30 p.m.
An eyewitness said all of the boxes were confiscated by federal agents on Monday, but no itemized list of items was provided by the FBI.
Trump’s attorneys had been cooperating fully with federal authorities to return the documents to the National Archives and Records Administration, according to sources.
The Post also reported that in May, Trump’s lawyer granted access to FBI agents to look at the boxes in the storage room. Trump even stopped by to say hi at one point.
This story is still developing and the FBI has not made any comments on the raid at this time.
