CNN’s staff is terrified as the firm continues to cut personnel.
Former host of “Reliable Sources” Brian Stelter was terminated last month, and White House correspondent John Harwood had his contract cut short after backing President Joe Biden’s anti- “MAGA Republicans” speech.
It appears that new CEO Chris Licht is doing some house cleaning by getting rid of the most partisan talents at the network. This has many of the staff members on edge, unsure of their own future at the company.
With such a high turnover rate, it’s hard for CNN to maintain a consistent voice and message. This could be detrimental to the network in the long run, as they lose viewers to other news outlets.
Only time will tell if Licht’s shakeup will be successful or not, but for now, the staff at CNN is living in fear of being next on the chopping block.
The network has already cut two high-profile journalists in recent weeks, Brian Stelter and John Harwood. And there are fears that more cuts could be on the way.
“Everyone is walking on eggshells,” one source said. “No one knows who will be next.”
The cuts come as CNN continues to struggle in the ratings. The network has been hemorrhaging viewers for years, and it is now firmly in third place behind Fox News and MSNBC.
And while CNN has long been the butt of jokes from President Donald Trump and his supporters, the network is now facing criticism from Democrats as well.
Last week, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi accused CNN of “caving to the right-wing” by giving too much airtime to Republicans.
The network has also been criticized for its handling of the 2020 election. CNN was one of the first networks to call Arizona for Biden, only to later backtrack and say the state was too close to call.

All of this has led to a feeling of unease at CNN. Staff members are worried about their jobs, and many are looking for other opportunities.
“People are sending out their resumes left and right,” one source said.
In the past week alone, CNN has parted ways with two of its most high-profile reporters: White House Correspondent John Harwood and Chief International Correspondent Clarissa Ward.
Harwood on President Biden’s speech before being released: “The core point he made in that political speech about a threat to democracy is true. Now, that’s something that’s not easy for us, as journalists, to say.
“We’re brought up to believe there are two different political parties with different points of view, and we don’t take sides in honest disagreements between them. But that’s not what we’re talking about.
“These are not honest disagreements. The Republican Party right now is led by a dishonest demagogue. Many, many Republicans are rallying behind his lies about the 2020 election and other things as well. And a significant portion—or a sufficient portion—of the constituency that they’re leading attacked the Capitol on Jan. 6 violently.
“By offering pardons or suggesting pardons for those people who violently attacked the Capitol, which you’ve been pointing out numerous times this morning, Donald Trump made Joe Biden’s point for him.”
It remains to be seen how many more cuts CNN will make, but it is clear that the network is in a state of flux. And that has many employees on edge.
