If there’s anyone to blame for the rampant homelessness across the nation, it’s crooked Joe’s corrupt regime. Under his term, the country experienced skyrocketing inflation, lawlessness, and a surge in crime rate, all while undocumented aliens splurged taxpayers’ money.
Only to leave cities responsible for the damage the communist federal government has done.
One stark issue our states have been confronting is the proliferation of homeless camps, especially in areas where shelters are scarce.
The SCOTUS ruled that cities can prohibit homeless people from sleeping or camping outdoors in West Coast areas.
The ruling comes amid the rising cases of homelessness in the country.
In a 6-3 decision in favor of the cities, the highest court in the country decided against the San Francisco-based appeals court, which stated that forbidding people from sleeping on the streets amounts to cruel and unusual punishment.
According to a bipartisan group of leaders, the ruling made by the appeals court made it difficult for them to manage homeless camps encroaching on pedestrian and other public spaces in nine Western states, including California, which ranks 3rd in the country’s homeless population.
The Supreme Court was asked to intervene in the City of Grants Pass, Oregon v. Johnson et. al, as the city intends to enforce a law prohibiting homeless camps on public property.
Grants Pass has 38,000 residents and has a looming homelessness crisis, with almost 600 individuals experiencing homelessness per day.
The court upheld Grants Pass’ ordinance and argued that enforcing such a law does not constitute ‘cruel and unusual punishment” under the 8th Amendment.
“The Court cannot say that the punishments Grants Pass imposes here qualify as cruel and unusual. The city imposes only limited fines for first-time offenders, an order temporarily barring an individual from camping in a public park for repeat offenders, and a maximum sentence of 30 days in jail for those who later violate an order. Such punishments do not qualify as cruel because they are not designed to “superad[d]” “terror, pain, or disgrace.” Justice Neil Gorsuch wrote in his majority opinion.
For Houman David Hemmati, MD, PhD, the ruling is a “game changer.”
“This is a game changer for California & SF/LA as it now allows governments to clean up parks & beaches, etc. While these actions may now be legal, it’s important to remember that we must always act with dignity and compassion. However, that compassion has boundaries, and destroying public spaces & preventing the public from safely enjoying spaces it owns is NOT compassionate to everyone else.”
Donald Trump sacrificed a life of luxury to be convicted in a fake trial, with a rigged jury, a communist judge, a communist DA, a communist state AG, a Communist Governor, a communist DOJ, and a dictator living in the White House.
