Despite Trump and Senator Marco Rubio’s complicated history, dating back to 2016 when the senator ran for GOP presidential nomination, Rubio finally decided to go all-out on former President Donald Trump on Sunday.

Sen. Rubio wrote on X his reasons behind backing the GOP leader. He said, “When Trump was in [the White House] I achieved major policies I had worked on for years (like expanded Child Tax Credit & tough sanctions on regime in Cuba & Venezuela) because we had a President who didn’t cave to special interests or let bureaucrats block us.”

He emphasized that with the “disasters” the country is facing now, Trump’s “extraordinary actions” are needed.

“I support Trump because that kind of leadership is the ONLY way we will get the extraordinary actions needed to fix the disaster Biden has created. It’s time to get on with the work of beating Biden & saving America!” Rubio wrote.

His endorsement comes as Iowa caucuses start on Monday. The results will influence the trajectory of the 2024 Republican primary race.

Rubio’s endorsement of Trump is a slap on the face for Gov. Ron DeSantis who serves as governor of Florida as he scores backing from both Florida senators. Senator Rick Scott declared his support for the MAGA leader in November.

Rubio was the 24th Republican senator to endorse the leading Republican nominee, which meant that the GOP leader had already secured the support of more than half of the Republican Senate.

Gov. Doug Burgum (R-North Dakota) and Dr. Ben Carson also endorsed Trump on Sunday.

Burgum, who was once critical of Trump, also mended fences with the former president and said in Simpson College’s Kent Campus Center, “I’ve seen President Trump and what he’s been able to do, I’ve seen it as a business leader and I’ve seen it as a governor.”

“I’ve seen the difference that President Trump can make.”

In Florida, Trump also has a significant lead against fellow Republican nominees, including DeSantis.

In a polling index conducted by The Hill and Decision Desk HQ, Trump leads 42.1 percentage points against DeSantis who only has 18 percentage points, former UN Ambassador Nikki Haley with 8.9 percentage points, and businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, who only has 1 percentage point.

Trump expects a major victory in Iowa as polls reflect him leading against rivals by a wide margin. According to polls, Trump leads the Republican nomination with 48 percent, while Haley trails at 20 percent, DeSantis at 16 percent, and Ramaswamy at 8 percent.
