Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) officially joins the Trump train as he declares his support for the Republican leading candidate on Tuesday.

Cruz wrote on X, “I am proud to endorse Donald J. Trump for President. Now is the time for us to unite to oust Joe Biden and save our country from the Democrats’ destructive agenda.”

His endorsement comes just a day after Trump’s historic win in the Iowa caucuses where he gathered 51% of the vote and won 98 out of 99 counties.

“…this race is over,” says Cruz in an interview with Sean Hannity on Fox News.

“I look forward to supporting him enthusiastically.”

For Cruz, the Iowa results are enough to assess the GOP leader’s victory. He said, “With the results last night [Iowa caucuses], the people have spoken.”

“It’s time to move onward to victory in November,” said Cruz.

However, he also acknowledged that the upcoming New Hampshire GOP primary “might be closely contested.”

Both Republicans did not have a smooth sailing relationship, to say the least. During the presidential primaries in 2016, Trump and Cruz exchanged personal tirades.

However, post-2016 primaries, the GOP leader apologized to Cruz and told the senator, “He considered him an ally, not an enemy, and that he believed they could work together when Trump was president.”

Paul Manafort, Trump’s former campaign aide, also highlighted this in his book Political Prisoner: Persecuted, Prosecuted, but Not Silenced. According to Manafort, Trump apologized to Cruz and said he was sorry for calling his wife ugly and for falsely linking his father to the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

Cruz also endorsed Trump in 2016, who was running against the Democratic Party candidate Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

The Texas senator heeds Trump’s call for unity among the Party and joins fellow senators in supporting him in the presidential race. Cruz is the 24th Republican senator to endorse Trump.

“To help us win this fight, please make a donation right now to support me and President Trump as we work together to defeat Joe Biden & Save America. Make a strong statement with your support,” he said, alongside a link to donate to Trump’s campaign.

Before his endorsement, the senator slammed U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan for her handling of Trump’s case on the January 6 events.

During his podcast, he said, “So in terms of the judge, we can anticipate a judge who is going to be relentlessly hostile to Donald Trump, who is going to bend over backwards for the Biden [Department of Justice] and who is going to make ruling after ruling after ruling against Trump.”
