Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers held nothing back when talking about his home state of California. He said his home state “is going to s**t.”
He criticized California during a conversation with Bill Maher on his podcast “Club Random.”
“State’s going to s**t, but I’m hanging on,” Rodgers said, according to a preview of the podcast obtained by SFGate.
He talked about how the strict COVID-19 measures led to the closure of lots of businesses, including some in his hometown of Chico.
“I grew up in a small town, very little cases up in Chico, California, but all the small businesses? F***ing gone,” Rodgers said.
He talked about his disapproval of a bill that Governor Gavin Newsom is set to sign. The bill would discipline medical professionals for promoting “disinformation” and “misinformation.”
Rodgers previously made fun of Newsom’s COVID policies on Joe Rogan’s podcast last month. He said he wants people to realize that “serious errors were made” during the pansies and that people should “vote Republican” in response to decisions made.
On Maher’s podcast, Rodgers did clarify his stance on being pro-life or pro-choice.
“My thing is I have an issue with the hypocrisy in society in general and I know you do as well, but abortion has been a hot topic, right? And especially after Roe v. Wade got overturned and sent back to the states, or whatever. I don’t believe the government should have any control over what we do with our bodies.”
“I don’t believe the government should have any control over what we do with our bodies,” Rodgers said. “As much as I might lean more pro-life, I don’t want the government to tell me I can’t smoke a cigar, I can’t have a drink of alcohol, I can’t choose my own medical decisions. And if I’m a woman, don’t f***ing tell me what to do.”
Maher tried to get Rodgers to discuss his stance on a possible Donald Trump and Joe Biden rematch in 2024. Maher said for himself while “the Democrats and the woke side are so much more obnoxious,” “the Republicans are actually more dangerous.”
Rodgers expressed doubts in regards to Biden running again at the age of 81. He said, “I’m a rational thinker. I’m not on one side or the other.”
Rodgers has also been public about the COVID-19 vaccine. He did. Not take the vaccine and said there was a “witch hunt” against him in the media for not doing so.
“There was a ton of people tuning in, rooting against us for one reason and one reason only – it’s because of my vaccination status,” Rodgers said.
“Wanting to see us lose so they can pile on, enjoy and revel in the fact that my vaccination status was some sort of reason why we haven’t had success in the playoffs.”
“Because I don’t watch the news or don’t subscribe to the same type of mainstream narrative at times; and have decided to take my own personal health and responsibility for my health in my hands; and did my research and looked into things; and also my association with other people who have done similar things, there’s anger thrown my way but the root of that I think is fear.”
