Following a successful fundraiser, President Donald Trump published a video on Truth Social revealing his stance on abortion while emphasizing that it is up to the states to decide.
The former president also acknowledged and praised the role of Supreme Court justices who flipped Roe v. Wade in their Dobbs decision, which culminated the five-decade era of legal abortion in the United States and allowed individual states to determine the issue.
“My view is that now that we have abortion where everybody wanted it from a legal standpoint, the states will determine by vote or legislation, or perhaps both, and whatever they decide, must be the law of the land,” Trump remarked.
“This is all about the will of the people. You must follow your heart, or in many cases, your religion or your faith. Do what’s right for your family, and do what’s right for yourself,” he continued. “Do what’s right for your children. Do what’s right for our country, and vote—so important to vote. At the end of the day, it’s all about the will of the people.”
The MAGA leader remarked that even though the abortion issue is often a question of morality, the Republicans must “also win elections to restore the culture.”
Joe Biden has been weaponizing this issue to drive away voters from Trump, painting him as a “threat to women.”
“You must follow your heart on this issue, but remember, you must also win elections to restore our culture, and, in fact, to save our country, which is currently and very sadly, a nation in decline,” he said. “Our nation needs help. It needs unity. It needs us all to work closely together.”
President Trump also expressed support for abortion policies that contain exceptions for rape, incest, and the life of the mother.
Additionally, he expressed strong support in favor of in vitro fertilization, a process where “mature eggs are collected from ovaries, and fertilized by sperm in a lab, then placed in a uterus to allow babies to develop.”
“Under my leadership, the Republican Party will always support the creation of strong, thriving, and healthy American families. We want to make it easier for mothers and families to have babies—not harder. That includes supporting the availability of fertility treatments like IVF in every state in America,” Trump noted.
Trump’s statement on abortion comes after he raised the possibility of a federal law that would only allow abortion until 15 weeks of pregnancy.
