Tulsi Gabbard Shares Update on DOJ Role in Trump-Russia Probe Origins

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard is intensifying her criticism of the Obama administration, alleging that top officials deliberately politicized intelligence to undermine President Donald Trump after his 2016 election victoƒry. In a recent appearance on Jesse Watters Primetime, Gabbard claimed that a “deep state” network inside Washington worked to suppress information surrounding the origins of the Trump-Russia collusion narrative.

Gabbard pointed to what she described as institutional resistance within the intelligence community to releasing documents that she says expose how the narrative was constructed. “There are a lot of deep state actors still here within Washington,” Gabbard said. “President Trump wants us to find the truth. I want to find that truth. The American people deserve the truth, and they deserve accountability.”

She expressed support for a newly formed Department of Justice strike force, announced by Attorney General Pam Bondi, aimed at reviewing intelligence and evidence related to the issue. “We have more coming and [will] determine the path forward to bring about that accountability,” she added.

Last week, Gabbard published over 100 declassified documents detailing pre- and post-election assessments of Russian influence. According to her, these records reveal a shift in the intelligence community’s conclusions after Trump defeated Hillary Clinton. Prior to the election, the consensus view reportedly held that Russia lacked both the intent and capability to interfere with the U.S. electoral process.

Gabbard went further, stating on social media that former President Barack Obama directed the intelligence community to create a new assessment outlining Russian election meddling, despite it contradicting previous findings. She alleged this was part of a deliberate strategy to “delegitimize” Trump’s presidency.

A spokesperson for Obama rejected the accusations as “outrageous” and “bizarre,” dismissing them as distractions from well-documented conclusions about Russian interference. “Nothing in the document issued last week undercuts the widely accepted conclusion that Russia worked to influence the 2016 presidential election but did not successfully manipulate any votes,” the spokesperson said, referencing a 2020 report by the bipartisan Senate Intelligence Committee.

Former Obama National Security Council official Ned Price also rebutted Gabbard’s claims, accusing her of blurring the lines between hacking and influence efforts. In a Fox News op-ed, he argued that Gabbard is attempting to “overturn established facts with conspiratorial fiction.”

The 2020 report by the Senate Intelligence Committee, led at the time by then-Senator Marco Rubio—now Secretary of State—concluded there was no evidence of collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia. However, it confirmed that Russia engaged in a broad effort to influence the outcome of the election. The committee criticized the FBI for relying on the discredited Steele dossier and noted that WikiLeaks played a significant role in spreading hacked Democratic emails.

Gabbard, who has since referred the matter for criminal investigation by the Department of Justice, emphasized her ongoing pursuit of accountability. Trump, meanwhile, has responded by accusing Obama of “treason” and recently reposted an AI-generated video showing the former president being arrested in the Oval Office.

Despite the backlash, Gabbard remains steadfast. “The American people deserve to know the truth about what really happened,” she said. “This isn’t about politics—it’s about restoring integrity to our institutions.”
