As soon as Joe Biden took office back in January of this year, one of his first executive orders was to stop the Keystone XL pipeline that was approved by his predecessor President Donald Trump. Soon thereafter, Biden approved The Nord Stream 2 pipeline from Russia.
European countries are now starting to realize how bad of a decision this was and backed up President Trump’s warnings from last year.
In a press conference on Sunday, the former President of the European Union Council, Donald Tusk said that German Chancellor Angela Merkel is now ‘helpless’ in the face of lobbying efforts from German industry to approve The Nord Stream 2 pipeline which is set to deliver gas to Germany from Russia. According to a report from Breitbart.
“As Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel was helpless in the face of the lobbying force of domestic entrepreneurs,” Tusk said calling out Merkel’s decision to become dependent on Russian gas. He called this decision Merkel’s “biggest mistakes”
“From the point of view of the interests of the European Union, Nord Stream 2 is a bad project,” he added.
The Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki has also criticized Merkel’s decision to become dependent on Russian gas. He is now calling the incoming German government to do “everything possible not to allow Nord Stream 2 to be an instrument in the arsenal of President Putin.”
“Nord Stream 2 is becoming a tool to blackmail Ukraine and Moldova. It is also a tool for the manipulation of energy prices,” Morawiecki said on Sunday.
Formal President Trump was very critical of Merkel’s decision. He had warned that this would lead to Germany and other European countries becoming “captive” to the political pressure from Russia and Vladimir Putin. Putin has a history of using gas supplies as a tool to pressure foreign capital.
Yet again, one of those “Trump Conspiracy Theories” is turning into a reality and still, most in the mainstream media still continue to call President Trump a “Russian Asset”
President Trump was very critical of Germany failing to meet its NATO spending obligations and had harshly criticized the European country and its government for ‘benefiting from American military protection from Russia and not paying their fair share’ this was a part of President Trump’s ‘America First’ policies which brought prosperity to the American economy and job market and made the country energy independent for a first time. A complete opposite of the current administration.
“It is very sad when Germany makes a massive oil and gas deal with Russia, where we’re supposed to be guarding against Russia, and Germany goes and pays out billions and billions of dollars a year to Russia. We’re protecting Germany, we’re protecting France, we’re protecting all of these countries,” President Trump said in 2018.
