Brandon Brown, the NASCAR driver and the face of the “Let’s Go Brandon” meme announced recently that he is partnering with LGBCoin.io as a sponsor for his Xfinity Series car for this year.
After expressing his frustrations online that he could not find any sponsors because of the controversial phrase that his name is now being associated with, James Koutoulas, the founder of Typhoon Capital Management reached out to Brandon to partner for the Xfinity series.
Max Marucci, Brown’s publicist recently revealed that the red, white, and blue, American flag-themed car paint and LGB logo were previously approved by NASCAR in writing. Marucci claims that they got written approval prior to finalizing the sponsorship with LGB coin.
But now, after Brandon publicly announced his plans, NASCAR is backpedaling. Saying that they are “still reviewing” the details. A NASCAR official told Motorsports that Brown “jumped the gun” with the announcement.
“I don’t know what happened, any internal conversations,” Marucci said. “But we’re just going to try to work through whatever happens next.” He added.
Apart from the Motorsports statement, NASCAR hasn’t publicly explained themselves yet. Steve Phelps, the president of the racing organization had previously stated that he did not want to be connected to the politics of either side.
However, NASCAR recently approved a Black Lives Matter logo on Bubba Wallace’s car for a race at Martinsville Speedway.
“I’m excited for this opportunity to run #BlackLivesMatter on the car for Martinsville,” Wallace said in an announcement.
“This statement that we have right here. … Running this race car. Being on live television. I think it’s going to speak volumes for what I stand for, but also what the initiative that NASCAR, the whole sport, is trying to push.” He added.
