Thanks to the liberal Defund The Police moment that is rising across the country especially in Democrat-run cities and states, many police and law-enforcement officials are now quitting their jobs and fleeing blue states.
One such prominent example of this is the internationally respected, New York Police Department (NYPD) that has seen budget cuts like never before under the leadership of Democrat mayor Bill deBlasio.
As criminals and looters cause chaos in the city, with crime rates continually increasing, more than 5300 NYPD uniformed officers have retired or put their papers to leave in 2020. Which makes it a whopping 75 percent spike from the year before. A department report shows that over 1000 additional officers have followed suit in 2021.
As if that number wasn’t shocking enough, now NYPD Commissioner Dermot Shea and First Deputy Commissioner Ben Tucker have announced their retirement, just weeks before the new mayor Eric Adams takes office. According to a report from The New York Times.
Mayor-Elect Eric Adams has previously proposed to appoint a ‘black woman’ as the next police commissioner when he takes office. This has made many New Yorkers including his voters upset.
Shea and Tucker will retire from the police department on December 31. According to a police source. Along with the two top officials, Commissioner Shea’s driver, Det. Thomas Fitzgerald has also filed for retirement on Thursday.
